Ann Arbor, MI Organizer's Charges Dropped After May 25th Arrest

Press Release

March Against Monsanto

8/21/13

Kristen Jones filed a motion to dismiss the charges of using amplified sound(blow horn) on Aug 5th, 2013 at the March Against Monsanto protest in Ann Arbor, MI that she helped organize. Her prosecutor told her lawyer that he hadn't looked into the case all that much but he was going to take a second look seeing as her legal team was citing the first amendment. Today, 8/21/13, her lawyer got a notice saying the city has dropped the case. Kristen's legal team, along with the ACLU, are now going to take the city to court to try to eliminate the permitting process for protests in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Currently, the law states that you have to submit an application, pay anywhere between $100-1500, and get $500,000 insurance.  She believes it to be unconstitutional and violates the 1st amendment to put that many restrictions on a matter of free speech.
